Abel Sanchez brands Gennady Golovkin ‘greedy’ and ‘ungrateful’ after shock split from boxer

Middleweight legend Gennady Golovkin has split from his longtime trainer Abel Sanchez.

If you were to read Golovkin’s statement on the matter, you would believe it was a pleasant parting of the ways.

Chelsea – Gennady Golovkin
Golovkin has long been one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world

However, Sanchez has released his own statement on the matter and it is a very, very different read.

The pair enjoyed nine glorious years together than lead to Golovkin – commonly regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world – to the most lucrative deal of his career.

Golovkin, 37, just signed a major six-fight deal with DAZN, but the offer that GGG reportedly made his trainer was — in Sanchez’s words — “insulting.”

Take a look at Sanchez’s release below:

⠀ I would like to announce that I have made a major decision for myself and for my career. I want to build on what I have already achieved and continue to better myself. Therefore, I will not be training with Abel Sanchez. This was not an easy decision for me and it is not a reflection on Abel’s professional abilities. He is a great trainer, a loyal trainer, and a Hall of Fame trainer. I will be announcing my new trainer at a later date. But today, I want to thank Abel for the lessons he taught me in boxing.

Wow, tell it like it is, Abel!

Golovkin’s next outing will see him take on Steve Rolls at Madison Square Garden on June 8, just one week after Anthony Joshua headlines the arena.

That fight is believed to be a mere tune-up for a third installment in his rivalry with Saul Alvarez which could happen late in 2019.
