Adrian Durham calls for VAR to be scrapped following ‘garbage’ decision at Tottenham vs Sheffield United: ‘It’s destroying football’

VAR has become a huge talking point once again in the Premier League this weekend.

It was at the Tottenham vs Sheffield United match where the new system stole the headlines with the Blades being disallowed a goal by the most marginal offside call.

David McGoldrick thought he’d levelled the game up after Heung-min Son had opened the scoring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, the goal was ruled out by the VAR crew at Stockley Park in London as Blades man John Lundstram, who crossed the ball in from the right earlier in the move, was ruled offside.

But as you can see from the picture below, the decision could be viewed as harsh on Sheffield United as Lundstram appears to be offside, by a toe’s length…

This call did not sit well with talkSPORT host Adrian Durham, who argued that Lundstram’s involvement did not directly lead to the goal anyway.

He tweeted: “Incredible garbage this. Scrap VAR.

“Never should be disallowed, wasn’t even the correct phase of play.”

On air, Adrian went on to say that the new system is ‘destroying football.’

He added: “I just cannot have that as disallowed.
