Alex Hales removed from England squads after ban for taking recreational drugs

Alex Hales has been withdrawn from all England squads following his ban for taking recreational drugs.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Monday that Hales has been removed after the decision was made by managing director Ashley Giles and the national selectors.

Alex Hales has been dropped from all England squads

The Nottinghamshire batsman will not travel to Ireland for the one-off ODI on Friday in Malahide.

He has also been withdrawn from the squad that will face Pakistan for the ODI and T20 series against Pakistan.

The 30-year-old has also been removed from the preliminary World Cup squad.

Hales received a 21-day ban for recreational drug use

The Guardian revealed last week that Hales was serving a 21-day ban from cricket for recreational drugs use.

It was also the second time he had fallen foul of the ECB’s recreational drug policy.

Commenting on the decision, Giles said: “We have thought long and hard about this decision. We have worked hard to create the right environment around the England team and need to consider what is in the best interests of the team, to ensure they are free from any distractions and able to focus on being successful on the pitch.
