Alexandre Lacazette: Questions asked as Arsenal striker gets at least one vote for Football Writers’ Association footballer of the year

Raheem Sterling was named as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the year on Monday but there was one name on the list of players who received votes that raised some eyebrows.

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette received at least one vote from the association’s members.

Alexandre Lacazette was one of eight players to get a vote for footballer of the year

Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Bernardo Silva and David Silva were also chosen.

Raheem Sterling won with 62 per cent of the vote and was more than 100 ahead of Virgil van Dijk in second.

Manchester City team-mate Sergio Aguero was named in third place.

Sterling was a deserved winner of the award with 29 goals for club and country to his name this season.

Lacazette has had a good season with Arsenal but you could pick several names who have been better.
