Anthony Joshua reassures fans he will fight back in the UK very soon, targets Deontay Wilder and Oleksandr Usyk
Anthony Joshua has given a public message to his British supporters, reassuring them that he will be fighting back home very soon.
The unified heavyweight champion has had his first 22 bouts in the UK, but will now head to the States for his next outing on June 1.
Joshua takes on Jarrell Miller at MSG in New York, but is already looking ahead to potential future fights against WBC title-holder Deontay Wilder and undisputed cruiserweight conqueror Oleksandr Usyk.
“The heavyweight division is alive. It is booming,” Anthony Joshua told Sky Sports.
“I think it will be class if I can fight Wilder for the undisputed title and then I could fight Usyk because then that would be the undisputed heavyweight champion versus the undisputed cruiserweight champion at heavyweight. That would be unbelievable…
“If I don’t get Wilder, what am I doing it for? If I don’t get my hands on the WBC belt, what am I doing it for? I really want that chance and that opportunity.”
An undisputed title showdown between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder would almost certainly take place in America if it were to happen next.
Despite this, AJ doesn’t want his home crowd to think he’s abandoned them and insists he’ll return to the UK in the very near future.
“The whole of boxing’s booming at the minute, especially British boxing.
“I’ve got to pop over to the States for a bit, but I don’t forget where I come from.
“I’ll be back here soon, bringing the titles back, bringing the entertainment back.
“But in the meantime there’s all these other great fighters to keep on lifting the flag as well.
“So, as I said, it’s just a step over the pond for a week or two, then I’ll be back over here doing what we’ve been doing.”
