Anthony Joshua reveals his dream opponent from any era, names fellow Brit Lennox Lewis as number one choice

Anthony Joshua has named Lennox Lewis as his dream opponent for a fantasy bout against any fighter from any era.

The current unified heavyweight champion revealed that he would have loved the chance to face off with the former undisputed king in a battle to crown Britain’s best ever heavyweight – although Tyson Fury may have something to say about that.

Anthony Joshua was congratulated by Lennox Lewis after following in his footsteps to win Olympic Gold

When asked as part of a Top Gear segment who his dream fight would have been against, Joshua replied: “I always say Lennox, Lennox Lewis.

“He’s active, he’s still talking about boxing to this day.

“He was a British heavyweight. I think it’d be the best of Britain.

“Big fight that. If the fans demanded it, it would be at Wembley.”

As a professional, AJ has gone on to claim three of the four major heavyweight world titles

It is possible that AJ’s choice may have also been influenced by comments Lewis has made about him in recent months.

Lennox has repeatedly criticised Joshua and his team for failing to agree a fight with Deontay Wilder this year, most recently referring to the Brit as “protected.”

The now retired former champion even publicly told the current king the financials he should offer in order to bring the bout to fruition.

As well as dreaming of the chance to prove himself as the UK’s greatest ever boxer, Joshua may also have an underlying motivation to settle a score with Lewis.
