Arsenal news: Unai Emery apologises for kicking water bottle at Brighton fan in frustration
Unai Emery said sorry to a Brighton fan for kicking a water bottle at him.
The Arsenal boss booted the plastic bottle in frustration during his side’s 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium, but the bottle flew into the crowd, which prompted an immediate apology.
The Spaniard then walked over to the Brighton fan at full-time to shake his hand.
The gesture appeared to be well received by home supporters, who applauded the manager.
“I kicked the (water) bottle. It wasn’t hard but it touched one supporter,” he explained afterwards.
Arsenal slipped out of the Champions League places following the draw at Brighton with Chelsea moving up to fourth.
The Gunners had led through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before a defensive error from Stephan Lichtsteiner allowed Brighton to level before the break.
“I think the key today was the first 45 minutes,” Emery said. “We controlled the match like we want, we scored and had two good chances from Aubameyang to get the second – but their keeper saved.
“But then they equalised. From then, it gave us the second half to try again to control the match, create chances and be able to win – but we didn’t do that.”
