Barnsley FC: Police arrest man on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offence and racially aggravated assault

South Yorkshire police have arrested a man on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and racially aggravated assault.

The arrest relates to an incident at Oakwell, home of Barnsley, on Saturday 13 April.

Police say the man attended a police station and was arrested on Wednesday 17 April. He remains in police custody for questioning, adding “We would ask members of the media and the public to refrain from speculation in relation to this incident as it could potentially harm the investigation.”

South Yorkshire Police have arrested a man relating to an incident after the game at Oakwell between Barnsley and Fleetwood

On Saturday the League One side hosted Fleetwood Town, winning 4-2 to move back into the promotion places.

Barnsley subsequently revealed they had lodged a complaint to the EFL and FA following a tunnel incident.
