Billy Joe Saunders result: Brit produces impressive knockout of Marcelo Coceres to end tough fight on KSI vs Logan Paul 2 undercard
Billy Joe Saunders scored an impressive knockout to defend his WBO super-middleweight world title against Marcelo Esteban Coceres on Saturday night in LA.
However, the Brit endured a far tougher fight than expected as the Argentinian challenger pushed him all the way up until the stoppage.
The bout began with Saunders coming forward more so than usual, but being effectively countered by Coceres.
A solid right hand consistently landed on the Brit, who looked far from his usual elusive self.
BJS did enough to pick up some of the middle rounds, but never looked convicingly ahead in the fight and was booed at stages.
Coming into the eleventh, host broadcaster DAZN scored the bout even as Saunders continued to look flat.
This was rendered irrelevant in the eleventh though, as the champion scored a knockdown when he badly needed it.
Coceres made it back to his feet, but BJS saw his opportunity and pursued the finish, flooring his foe twice more to force a stoppage.
He admitted post-fight: “There’s no excuse. That performance is not worthy of Canelo.
