Chelsea news: Eden Hazard close to 100 goals for Premier League club and joining Lampard and Drogba as Blues centurions
It’s Chelsea v Leicester and Eden Hazard is very close to joining an exclusive club.
Since joining the Blues from Lille in 2012, the playmaker has scored Eden Hazard has scored 99 goals for Chelsea in all competitions and if he puts finds the back of the net, he will become the 10th player to reach 100 competitive goals for the club.
And you can find out if he reaches the milestone live on talkSPORT 2 from 3pm.
Hazard has been one of the Blues’ better players this season and so far he has:
- Been directly involved in 17 Premier League goals (eight goals, nine assists), which is more than any other player
- Hazard has provided an assist in each of his last four Premier League games (five assists), with the only Chelsea player to do this in five consecutive Premier League games being Gianfranco Zola in December 2002
Chelsea players with at least 100 goals
Frank Lampard – 211 goals
Bobby Tambling – 202 goals
Kerry Dixon – 193 goals
Didier Drogba – 164 goals
Roy Bentley – 150 goals
Peter Osgood – 150 goals
Jimmy Greaves – 132 goals
George Mills – 125 goals
George Hilsdon – 108 goals
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has played Hazard in the centre forward role this season and he has thrived, however, Sarri says the Belgian can play anywhere.
“There isn’t a ‘best’ position for Hazard,” he said.
“Hazard is a wonderful player with a very high level of imagination and I think he needs to be let free on the pitch. So I think there isn’t a ‘right’ position for him. But we need to have a very high level of organisation in ways to his movements.”
And considering there are rumours linking Chelsea with a move for Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, it looks like Hazard could continue operating in the position, with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud seemingly not trusted to lead the line.
