Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri slams ‘stupid’ fans for alleged anti-Semitic chants during Watford win
Maurizio Sarri condemned a minority of ‘stupid’ Chelsea fans after allegations were made of anti-Semitic chanting during their 2-1 win over Watford on Boxing Day.
There were reports that a section of fans used anti-Semitic words in a song about Willian rejecting rivals Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck recently penned an open letter to the club’s supporters vowing to stamp out all forms of discrimination after the alleged racial abuse directed towards Raheem Sterling by a fan.
Sarri says he did not hear the chants when asked after the game but he still condemned the small minority.
Asked if he had a comment, he said: “No, because I didn’t hear anything. But I think first of all, I want to speak with my club.
“I don’t want to generalise. For 99 per cent of cases our fans are wonderful in every community there are some stupid and altogether we have to fight against the stupid people but not against the Chelsea fans.”
