Conor McGregor responds after Paulie Malignaggi slaps team-mate Artem Lobov in heated clash
Conor McGregor posted an instant response when he saw Paulie Malignaggi slap his friend and team-mate Artem Lobov on Tuesday.
Malignaggi and Lobov are both now signed to a bare-knuckle boxing deal with the BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) and appeared at a media day together to promote the company.
However, as they’re being lined up to fight one another, the pair quickly came face to face and previous bad blood spilled over in the gym.
Paulie Malignaggi slapped Artem Lobov and they were soon separated before any more serious blows were thrown.
The clip then went viral, with the American shouting death threats at his Russian rival, and it caught the attention of his pal, McGregor.
Malignaggi and McGregor famously sparred in 2017 while the Irishman was preparing to box Floyd Mayweather.
Prior to the session, the American had downplayed McGregor’s chances in the bout and so the MMA star responded by posting select clips from their spar, one of which showed his rival hitting the deck.
Since then, their feud has been ongoing, with McGregor now responding to the slap incident by uploading a series of 21 images, all portraying his time in the ring with Malignaggi as one-sided.
The situation bares resemblance to a similar scenario that occurred last year.
Khabib Nurmagomedov slapped Lobov and McGregor’s response was to fly out to New York and attack a bus containing the Russian. It ultimately ended with Khabib submitting him in their October showdown.
Malignaggi vs Lobov is being eyed for June by the BKFC, and the former also told talkSPORT he wants to face Conor afterwards.
Whether or not this comes to fruition is yet to be seen.
