Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: Premier League match preview, team news, predicted line-ups, plus more

Chelsea play their second successive away match in the festive period when they travel to face a revitalised Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have picked up seven points from their last three matches, including a memorable 3-2 win over current Premier League champions Manchester City.

Andros Townsend scored a stunning goal for Crystal Palace against Manchester City

Chelsea, meanwhile, bounced back from a surprise 1-0 defeat against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge with a 2-1 victory against Watford on Boxing Day courtesy of an Eden Hazard brace.

In this exact fixture last October, Palace entered the match without a win in their opening seven matches, but an inspired performance from talisman Wilfried Zaha helped them earn a 2-1 win.

Chelsea are winless in their last five away Premier League London derbies (D2 L3), their longest run without a win on the road since a run of eight between December 2010 and September 2012.

Eden Hazard has scored three times in his last two away matches

If Chelsea are victorious tomorrow, it will be a third consecutive away win under Maurizio Sarri, the first time this will have been done since April when Antonio Conte was in charge.

What the managers are saying

Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace) “They are doing well in the league and they will be a tough ask for us with the quality of their players and the quality of their organisation, and the size and strength of the club. But we are in the Premier League to play the Chelseas of the world.

“We have got to believe in ourselves and I suppose the fact we won last year does leave you with that memory that, although on paper we will be anything but favourites to win the game, we certainly haven’t lost it until a referee blows a final whistle.

Maurizio Sarri (Chelsea) “It’s a very difficult match because in the last three matches at home they were able to not concede a goal to the opponent, then they are very dangerous on the counter attack. We have to play against a very dangerous team, especially with it being away.”

Team news

Crystal Palace have Wayne Hennessey (back) back in contention, while striker Christian Benteke (match fitness) is not yet ready to return.

There are doubts over Andreas Christensen (hamstring), Alvaro Morata (knee) and Victor Moses (back), while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro are both out with hamstring strains.

Predicted line-ups

Crystal Palace: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, McArthur, Kouayte, Milivojevic, Meyer, Zaha, Townsend.

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Hazard, Willian, Giroud.
