David De Gea: Ryan Mason says it could be time for Manchester United goalkeeper to be dropped as his ‘confidence is shattered’

Ryan Mason believes it could be time for Manchester United to drop David De Gea.

The goalkeeper’s recent form has come into question after a string of errors have led to goals.

Marcos Alonso drew Chelsea level

He was again at fault when Marcos Alonso scored Chelsea’s equaliser in the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Sunday, which ended 1-1.

The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer for United over a number of seasons but former Tottenham and Hull midfielder Mason believes he could be benched.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s a mental thing for me. I think he had a really, really poor World Cup with Spain as well and it has carried on into this season.

“There has always been speculation about his future but now we are seeing someone who’s confidence is shattered.

David De Gea held up his hand when he walkked off at half-time

“A year ago there was talk of him being one of the best ‘keepers in the world.

“You look at him now and he is doing well to keep his place at United.
