One of Deontay Wilder’s current sparring partners has thrown his hat into the ring as a potential replacement opponent for Anthony Joshua.

Junior Fa put himself forward after hearing the news that Jarrell Miller has been ruled out of the fight having now failed two drugs tests and been refused a licenced by the New York Commission.

“I can’t believe Miller has missed this massive opportunity,” said the unbeaten heavyweight.

“I’m fit and ready to face Joshua. I’m here, right now in the USA sparring WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

“I get it, Matchroom are looking for an American opponent for Anthony’s debut fight in NYC, but what’s even more shocking than Miller failing his test is all the big names not ready to take a fight with seven weeks’ notice.”

Anthony Joshua was planning to make his US debut against Jarrell Miller on June 1 in New York

Anthony Joshua’s team are currently trying to secure a new foe to ensure the show goes on for his US debut on June 1.

New Zealander Fa is 29 years old and has won all of his 17 fights, though is completely untested as a professional thus far.

He has spent plenty of time sparring Joshua in the past and is now helping Wilder prepare for his May 18 defence against Dominic Breazeale.

Junior Fa is 17-0 (10 KOs)

“I don’t make excuses and I don’t need three months’ notice like other fighters,” he continued.

“I’m ready to go now! I’ve fought in the USA three times. I’m undefeated, world rated and carry two wins in the amateurs over Joseph Parker plus I have an iconic New Yorker as my promoter in Lou DiBella. Mr Hearn – Give Lou a call!”

“End of the day, Joshua is the guy I’m targeting. It doesn’t matter if it’s June 1 or sometime next year.

“I’ve sparred many rounds with Anthony, and his team know I’m a dangerous mobile heavyweight puncher and that’s probably not what they’re looking for right now considering he’s been training for a basic walk up fighter.”
