Dillian Whyte COLUMN: Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder… I’ll fight anyone and want world title shot in 2019
Heavyweight boxing is a joke. You don’t get what you deserve in heavyweight boxing. The division is a tough place to be right now because there are guys tricking people out of a living.
Dominic Breazeale should never be fighting Deontay Wilder. If you look at what he’s done and what I’ve done, it’s crazy that he’s the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s WBC belt and not me. But that’s the way the heavyweight division is. It’s been like that for a long time – it’s nothing new. It’s just one of them things that you learn to take in your stride. It’s annoying, but I don’t really get frustrated.
I’m going to be fighting next on July 13 as things stand. There’s a list of opponents we are trying to get, but a lot of them don’t want to fight me.
Manuel Charr said he’s not interested in fighting me because I’m ‘irrelevant’ but the guy is a just a media whore. He hasn’t even got a proper belt – where is he ranked? I’m ranked number four in the world, where is he ranked? His best fight to date is getting stopped early by Vitali Klitschko. If anyone is irrelevant, it’s him. He’s fought one guy in two years – Alexander Ustinov – and 90 per cent of people haven’t got a clue who that is.
He’s just out there looking for an excuse. He wants to fight Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, get knocked out and just get paid. He’s just looking to sell his belt to the highest bidder.
If Charr was serious about fighting people and he wants to fight Joshua, Fury or Wilder he should fight me, beat me, become number four in the world and then he’s in the position. We’ve offered him the fight and instead of being professional and negotiating, he’s taken to social media and is shouting his mouth off.
Professional people who want to fight don’t behave like that. If you think I’m irrelevant, fight me and beat me. You’re a world champion, right? I can’t take him seriously. What a deluded guy.
It’s tough getting an opponent because guys over price themselves, they just don’t want to fight and they’re looking for excuses so they don’t have to admit they’re scared.
Joshua and Wilder won’t fight me unless they absolutely have no choice. I’m too dangerous. That’s why we’ve been chasing the mandatory – which we should have had by now – because voluntarily these guys are not going to fight me. I’m way more dangerous for Joshua than Jarrell Miller. If he wanted to fight me again, he wouldn’t have made such a silly offer for the rematch – you can’t offer Fury £15m and me £4m.
I’m not tooting my own horn here or anything, but I’m not an easy night’s work for no one and these guys are thinking ‘why am I going to fight this guy if he’s not mandatory?’
There are real guys out there that will fight anyone and I’m one of those. I don’t care. That’s why I get the respect that I do from older fighters, fighters that have been around and know the game. You can believe the Joshua hype and the Wilder hype but when you look at my record, who I’ve fought and the way I’m willing to fight anyone… I don’t hide from no one, I don’t say ‘no’ to fights.
There are some fights that the team might think ‘ah, we don’t really need this’ but I just say ‘yeah, I’ll fight him. I don’t really care’. That’s my mindset. They say ‘there’s this guy’ and I say ‘cool, I’ll fight him’. I’m a fighter by nature.

I beat Lucas Browne, Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora in 2018 and the plan is to fight for a world title later this year. We’re still waiting to see what’s going to happen with the WBC and see what’s next for us. So right now it’s about one fight at a time.
I hope to make an announcement on my next fight very soon. My team is constantly working behind the scenes.
I just focus on fighting, take it one step at a time and try and put on my best performance. I’m not scared of anyone. Fury, Wilder, Joshua – watch out, because I’m coming for you!
