Dominic Breazeale calls out Deontay Wilder after brutal knockout of Carlos Negron
Dominic Breazeale exchanged words with a watching Deontay Wilder after brutally knocking out Carlos Negron on Saturday night.
Breazeale connected a right hand with the back of Negron’s head to send him hanging onto the ring ropes in the ninth round at the Brooklyn Center.
It was a third successive win for the 6ft 7in heavyweight since he was stopped by Anthony Joshua in June 2016 and he remains mandatory challenger to Wilder’s WBC title.
“I know Wilder’s here in the crowd – he came to watch,” Breazeale said to Fox Sports. “He knows I’m next.
“He better be holding on to that baby real tight because I’m coming. Trouble’s already here.
“I’ve been waiting for him and I did what I had to do tonight. I’m ready for him now.”
Breazeale may have to wait his turn to fight the ‘Bronze Bomber’, however, which could be in 2020, as a possible rematch with Tyson Fury following their controversial draw could be on the cards. Furthermore, Anthony Joshua has made the Wilder his number one target as he aims to unify the division.
After his win over Dereck Chisora, Dillian Whyte called out Johsua, but did not get the response he wanted from the champion.
“You know why? I showed him some respect. I just told him straight ‘Dillian, I knocked you out clean when we thought, but let’s forget about that, because we’ve both developed, so let’s prove who is a better fighter now,” Joshua told him.
“If Deontay Wilder ain’t serious, and he’s going to fight Tyson Fury and he doesn’t want to become undisputed, Dillian you’ll get a shot.”
