Eddie Hearn reveals Anthony Joshua’s new opponent for June 1 will be announced next week
Anthony Joshua will have a replacement opponent locked in for June 1 by next week, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
AJ’s camp was rocked by the news of Jarrell Miller’s positive drugs test on Tuesday night – with the American since been denied a licence by the New York State Athletic Commission – thus ruling him out of the bout.
The objective now is to recruit a new foe so the show can go on in New York in six weeks’ time.
Hearn told talkSPORT’s James Savundra: “There’s a lot of people flying in this weekend for meetings to try and land the fight.
“We will announce a new opponent for Anthony Joshua next week.
“It’s not a case of – we’re not gonna have options. It’s a lot of money and it’s a shot at the world heavyweight title that these people are going for.
“Some are prepared to do it and some are prepared to either not do it, or use alternative training methods to try and win.
“For the disappointment of this process, my only pleasing feeling is that we’ve stopped someone who is taking an illegal substance and a performance enhancing drug from getting in the ring to fight.
“We have stopped someone who was taking a substance to increase his endurance in a fight and in training to give him an edge over another man in a fight.
“I don’t ever want one of my fighters going into a fight, as dangerous as they are, in that position.”
