‘Is he thick?’ – Alex Hales gets no sympathy from Alan Brazil following England ban
talkSPORT host Alan Brazil had little sympathy with Alex Hales after more controversy saw the England batsman withdrawn from the World Cup squad.
The England and Wales Cricket board announced the decision after reports emerged that the Nottinghamshire opener was serving a 21-day ban for use of recreational drugs.
The incident, which occurred last year, follows Hales’ involvement in Ben Stokes’ fight outside a Bristol nightclub in September 2017.
And while the ECB has refused to confirm the reason behind Hales’ withdrawal, Brazil questioned the 30-year-old’s capacity to think.
“With the greatest respect and I mean this in the proper way,” the talkSPORT host said. “Is Alex Hales thick?”
ECB chief Ashley Giles insists the withdrawal does not mark the end of Hales’ England career.
“We have thought long and hard about this decision,” added Giles, the ECB’s managing director of England men’s cricket.

“We have worked hard to create the right environment around the England team and need to consider what is in the best interests of the team, to ensure they are free from any distractions and able to focus on being successful on the pitch.
“The ECB and the PCA (Professional Cricketers’ Association) will continue to aid Alex and work alongside his county club Nottinghamshire to give him the support he needs, to help him fulfil his potential as a professional cricketer.”
