KSI vs Logan Paul 2: How did the ‘beef’ start and turn into a professional boxing match?
KSI and Logan Paul face off this weekend in the grudge rematch of their YouTube boxing showdown.
The social media stars will take to the ring at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to settle their long-running feud.
But how did is all come about and why have two video-making youngsters become pro boxers?
KSI vs Logan Paul 2: The feud
In February 2018, after several months of feuding online, KSI defeated fellow British YouTuber Joe Weller in the first ‘boxing’ match of its kind.
The event was held at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park and was a huge success, drawing in over 25 million views on the video sharing website.
In the aftermath of the fight, KSI instantly called out Logan Paul and his younger brother Jake, both huge YouTube stars in the USA.
While holding the ‘YouTube Boxing Championship Belt’ aloft, he said: “If any YouTuber wants it, you can come get it. Jake Paul, Logan Paul, any of the Pauls, I don’t care.”
The Paul family, knowing the huge appeal a storyline would bring to their brands, responded quickly and insults began to be traded.
Fellow YouTuber Deji, younger brother of KSI, waded into the feud as well and it was soon announced that a boxing double-header between KSI and Logan and Deji and Jake was in the works.
The Paul’s initial call for an MMA fight was dismissed. Logan and Jake both have wrestling backgrounds while KSI and Deji had no combat experience barring the Weller event.
Following a number of videos back and forth, the social media stars settled on a contract and the event at the Manchester Arena on August 25 was confirmed.
The following weeks saw the bad-blood build between the two camps with several ‘diss tracks’ (derogatory music videos) made by each in an attempt to humiliate the other.
At the press conferences leading up to the fight, KSI and Logan nearly came to blows while Jake and Deji also faced off in a string of heated and controversial events.
The stars were all slammed for their foul and inappropriate language given the majority of their fans are teenagers or younger.
On fight night, Jake beat Deji to put an end to their rivalry.
But in the main event, KSI and Logan couldn’t be separated after their thrilling six rounds of a boxing ended as a majority decision draw.
Two of the judges scored it 57-57 while the third scoring it 58-57 in favour of KSI.
The draw created the need for a rematch with it set to be even bigger than the original which was dubbed “The Biggest Internet Event in History”.
KSI and Logan Paul will now do battle once again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend with a crowd of 21,000 expected and millions more viewing around the world.
