League One Betting Tips: 7/1 away-day treble ahead of Saturday’s action
There’s been no shortage of impressive attacking play in League One this season. Below we’ve highlighted three teams who could thrive in the final third on Saturday.
As things stands, a place in the play-offs looks like it belongs to the Addicks, who’ve enjoyed a very solid campaign under the stewardship of Lee Bowyer. Unlike some of the other teams in the top six, Charlton haven’t exactly made a habit of scoring multiple goals week in, week out, but with a forward like Lyle Taylor in their ranks, they’re no slouches in the final third. Moreover, they appear to have an excellent opportunity to hit their stride against Plymouth’s weak defence.
On Saturday, Bowyer’s men face a Plymouth side that has struggled to keep things tight all season long. Interestingly no team in League One has conceded more shots on target at home than the Pilgrims, who come into this game having conceded at least twice in each of their last two. What’s more, Derek Adams’ hosts, who’ve conceded more expected goals than 22 of the other 23 teams in the division this season, have conceded expected-goals figures of 1.75, 1.53, 2.34, 2.2 and 2.07 in their last five League One matches.
Right from the word go this season, Grant McCann’s attack-minded Doncaster Rovers have entertained crowds with their forward-thinking football. Donny have scored goals left, right and centre this campaign and have shown little signs of slowing down as the season draws to a close. Last time out, they made light work of notching three against Walsall, while they scored four against Bristol Rovers prior to that. Finding the net twice against Bradford’s weak defence should be well within Rovers’ grasp.
Not only have Doncaster, who currently rank as League One’s third best side in terms of expected goals for, thrived offensively, but Bradford have been nothing short of abysmal at the back this season. The Bantams have conceded more expected goals than any other side in third division, while they come into this match having shipped four goals last time out at home. Furthermore, they’ve surrendered an average of 2.32 expected goals since the start of March.
Chasers of the second automatic promotion spot, Sunderland will arrive at Spotland on Saturday afternoon having made light work of scoring three goals against another of the relegation scrappers (Accrington) on Wednesday evening. Jack Ross’ men haven’t always dazzled the crowds this season, but their individual quality, with players such as Aiden McGeady in their ranks, has never been in question, while their recent attacking efforts bode well.
The Black Cats have notched at least twice in each of their last two league games, while they’ve scored at least two goals in six of their last eight. Combine this with the fact that Rochdale have conceded more goals than any other team in League One this season and are one of only two teams to concede 100+ shots on target at home and it’s easy to see the visitors thriving on Saturday.
