Liverpool transfer news: Reds desperate to sign RB Leipzig wonderkid Timo Werner, but face competition from Bayern Munich – reports
Timo Werner is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old shot to prominence last season when he was targeted by Real Madrid after a stellar season with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
However, Jurgen Klopp has continuously sent scouts to watch the speedy striker, even being quoted £88million to sign him last season.
Werner has continued his prolific form into this season after notching 10 goals in 15 starts.
As a result, a move to German giants Bayern Munich was mooted after his exceptional performance against the champions on Wednesday.
According to AZ Information, the Reds are still extremely committed to bringing Werner to Anfield in the summer.
His contract expires in 2020 and it is understood the German side would prefer to cash in rather than allow such a prized asset leave for nothing.
Werner himself gave an interview to German TV after the game saying: “If you want to stay in Germany, there is only one other club to play for apart from Leipzig”.
In March, he told FourFourTwo he would love to play for Manchester United over Liverpool – citing the history of the club as the main reason for his decision.
