Mauricio Pochettino EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham Hotspur boss admits his players were tired after defeat to Wolves at Wembley
Mauricio Pochettino admitted his Tottenham Hotspur side might be tired after losing 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Harry Kane put the hosts in front with a spectacular effort, to give Pochettino’s men the perfect start to their last game in 2018.
However, goals from Willy Boly, Raul Jiminez and Helder Costa secured all three points for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The defeat, coupled with Liverpool’s thrashing of Arsenal, means Spurs are nine points off the Premier League leaders – a week after critics claimed they were in the hunt for the title.
However Pochettino admitted fatigue has placed a massive stain on his squad.
“I think it was in the last 20 minutes,” Pochettino said. “I think a few minutes before we conceded the first goal from the corner I think that was the moment that we started to miss some energy.
“We started to show a lack of concentration and focus on the game, maybe because the team is tired and of course the schedule and the fixture list is so tough!
“And we were a little bit unlucky because, in the moment that we wanted to provide the team with some fresh eneergy with Oliver Skipp, we concede a goal.
“Then it’s impossible to change anything and of course, the game was tough.
“In the last 15 to 20 minutes it was so tough for us.”
