Mauro Icardi inches from scoring directly from kick-off in Inter Milan’s game with Napoli
Mauro Icardi was within inches of scoring one of the fastest goals ever in football, but was denied by the crossbar.
He very nearly caught David Ospina off guard as the ball crashed against the crossbar.
Had it gone in, it would have comfortably been the fastest ever goal in Serie A with the record currently held by Paolo Poggi in 8.1 seconds for Piacenza against Fiorentina in 2001.
Inter did go on to win the game 1-0 when Lautaro Martinez scored in the final minute of the match.
The game was overshadowed by alleged racist abuse directed towards Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
Carlo Ancelotti revealed he asked twice for the match to be suspended as the Senegalese defender was subject to taunts from rival fans throughout the match.
Koulibaly was eventually sent off in the match for sarcastically applauding the referee following his first caution, and this allowed Inter to sneak to a 1-0 injury time win.
