Newcastle news: Miguel Almiron’s season is over due to hamstring injury, Magpies confirm

Newcastle midfielder Miguel Almiron will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, the Premier League club have confirmed.

Early signs were worrying when the 25-year-old left the field in tears during the Magpies’ 3-1 victory over Southampton at St James’ Park on Saturday.

And the Paraguay international now faces a race against time to be fit for this summer’s Copa America.

A statement issued on the club’s official website, www.nufc.co.uk, said: “Miguel Almiron will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Southampton.

“The 25-year-old was withdrawn in the 64th minute against the Saints and, having been assessed by the club’s medical staff, it has been confirmed that he will not be fit for the Magpies’ final three matches of the campaign.
