Oleksandr Usyk: Undisputed cruiserweight champion to make heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam

Oleksandr Usyk will make his heavyweight bow against Carlos Takam in America on May 25.

Ukrainian fighter Usyk (16-0 12KOs) dominated the cruiserweight division, becoming the undisputed champion with a commanding win over Murat Gassiev in July as well as winning the inaugural World Boxing Super Series.

Oleksandr Usyk is moving up to heavyweight

He made it clear his intention to move up to the heavyweight division and he will begin his big test against French fighter Takam (36-5-1 28KOs).

Takam fought Anthony Joshua for the IBF, WBA and IBO world titles in October 2017 where he took the Briton to ten rounds and also starred in a classic fight with Derek Chisora in July 2018.

“May 25 marks a major moment in my career when I move to the heavyweight division,” said Usyk.

“At cruiserweight I did it all and became the undisputed champion and that is my goal now in the heavyweights.
