‘One of the biggest mistakes ever’ – Adrian Durham launches scathing attack on Arsenal for allowing Aaron Ramsey to join Juventus for free

Adrian Durham has launched an astonishing attack on Arsenal for allowing Aaron Ramsey to leave for free this summer.

The Wales international was refused a new contract at the Emirates and is now set to earn a staggering £400,000-a-week at Juventus.

Despite his pending move to Italy, the Wales international has continued to perform admirably for Unai Emery’s men – scoring in the 2-0 win over Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday.

And with Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka continuing to divide opinion amongst fans in north London, the decision not to offer Ramsey a new deal appears to get all the more bemusing every week.

Speaking on Drive on Friday afternoon, Durham lambasted the Gunners board for allowing the 27-year-old to leave.

“Aaron Ramsey last night, brilliant again for Arsenal, and he is actually going on a free,” Durham said.

“Just let that sink in for a few seconds. There’s been a few mistakes made in the transfer market over the years, but is this the biggest one ever?

“Letting Aaron Ramsey, at the peak of his powers, playing the best football of his career probably, and being his most influential on the pitch for Arsenal, and they are letting him go on a free!

In 2010, Ramsey’s world was turned upside when his leg was shattered after a tackle by Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross.

However, the midfielder worked his way back into Arsene Wenger’s side, becoming a crucial figure as he blossomed into a cultured player capable of scoring and creating goals.

Although Ozil’s arrival in 2013 often saw him shunted out to the right, he was astounding for Wales at Euro 2016 when deployed in the No.10 role and has managed to score seven goals and record seven assists in all competitions this season.

And it is this diligence and determination which Drive host Durham believes makes this transfer one of the biggest mistakes in Premier League history.

“The thing for me is, he’s always been a professional,” the broadcaster continued. “This is a guy who suffered and came back from an horrific injury at Arsenal and there were problems with his form then, but I understand that.

“When you’ve had such an awful injury, such a bad leg break, to come back from that and be as you used to be can’t be easy, but he has got there!

But the Wales international bounced back to star at Euro 2016

“It might have taken him some time, a couple of seasons ago he was brilliant as well. So it’s not like he has been rubbish until January when the move was secured.

“So I’m wondering if this is the biggest mistake in the transfer market that has ever been made in Premier League history – I can’t think of another one this bad.

“Imagine what Ramsey, right now, would be worth. What is he, late 20’s? He’s playing at his peak, it’s an incredible mistake and last night I think some Arsenal fans must have had a go at themselves for being nasty about Aaron Ramsey in the past, I think some have even said he won’t be missed.

“I’ll drive him to Turin myself and all this – are you sure?
