Pascal Cygan and Kolo Toure needed 15 Arsenal teammates to break up blazing row claims David Bentley
David Bentley has revealed how Pascal Cygan and Kolo Toure had to be separated by 15 Arsenal players during a blazing row.
The midfielder, who retired in 2014 at the age of 29, graduated from the Gunners’ academy.
Playing as a No.10, Bentley found opportunities limited with the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires ahead of him.
After loan spells at Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers, he moved to Ewood Park in 2006 before a lucrative move to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
But in an interview with Soccer AM, the former England international was asked who he remembered being ‘Hard As Nails’ from his career and had no doubt in his mind.
“I remember Pascal Cygan and Kolo Toure having a row,” he said. “It was hard splitting them two up, I tell you!”
“There was about 15 blokes trying to separate them, I wouldn’t get in the ring with them!”
Toure formed a formidable partnership with Sol Campbell at the heart of Arsenal’s defence as they finished the 2003/04 season without suffering defeat in the Premier League.
However, Cygan’s time in north London was ultimately not as successful. The Frenchman may have got a Premier League winner’s medal from 2004.
But like Bentley, he was allowed to leave the club before they made their move to the Emirates and joined Villarreal for £2million.
