Southampton vs Manchester City: Premier League match preview, team news, predicted line-ups, plus more

Pep Guardiola will be desperate for his Manchester City side to get back to winning ways at Southampton after two successive Premier League defeats.

The Boxing Day setback at Leicester City meant it was a third loss in their last four matches for City, who had looked in imperious form prior to their match against Chelsea and have now dropped down to third, behind Tottenham and leaders Liverpool.

Man City have suffered back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester

It is as many games as they had lost in the previous 70 matches in the league.

Southampton will seek a response of their own having suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham, after winning Ralph Hasenhüttl’s first two matches in charge.

The last time these two played at St Mary’s was on the final day of last season, when Gabriel Jesus scored in stoppage time to make City the first team in history to reach 100 points in a top-flight campaign.

City won this fixture 2-1 last season

What the managers are saying

Pep Guardiola (Manchester City): “They (the players) are good. The response has been good, they have been training good as always.

“We have belief, whether the situation is win or lose we have that. They are heroes for me. We need to analyse what we have done good and bad and more forward.”
