Sunderland plan double swoop for Manchester United defenders
Manchester United are prepared to offload two of their young defensive talents, with Sunderland being the destination for both. David Moyes is keen to link up with his former players as he makes two bids for defenders Paddy McNair and Donald Love. It is reported that Moyes has made a £5 million bid for Paddy McNair, with bonuses and extras potentially raising that to £7m, whilst Donald Love will be available for just £1 million.
A lot of United fans will be disappointed to see 2 of their youth talents being shipped off for so little. This further damages Mourinho’s reputation for not bringing through youth players in to the first team, which he got a lot of criticism for recently. He has bought youth in the form of Eric Bailly, and the Ivorian will take a place in the back line instead.
Paddy McNair didn’t get any play-time under Moyes but has since made 24 appearances since for United, never managing to hold down a first team spot. That’s 23 more appearances than his team mate Donald Love though, who only managed 1 appearance in the League, though this one was under the management of David Moyes.
Love spent 2 months loaned out to Wigan Athletic at the end of 2015, making 7 appearances for the Latics. He has also played for Scotland at all youth levels, though never really held down a spot in the national youth sides either. He’s made only 9 appearances during his time with the Scotland U17s, U19s and U21’s combined.
Sunderland will be desperately looking to add to their defensive options they seem to be resigned to losing star defender Lamine Kone. He only signed for Sunderland in the January transfer window of last season, but quickly made an impact for the Black Cats and has now attracted interest from other Premier League clubs. Everton look the most likely to get his signature, with Koeman reportedly making an £18 million bid for the defender. The Ivorian has only made 5 appearances for his country, but has plenty of experience from his 6 years of playing for Lorient in the Ligue 1. He scored 2 league goals for Sunderland last season, both coming in a game against his potential new club Everton.
