UFC 232: Jon Jones defeats Alexander Gustafsson with third round knockout to regain light heavyweight title
UFC 232 saw Jon Jones defeat Alexander Gustafsson with a knockout in the third round to regain his light heavyweight title.
Their previous bout at UFC 165, back in 2013, finished in exactly the same manner but with a controversial call.
Second time around, there was no doubting the victor as Jones rocked his opponent in Los Angeles.
After 17 months out, Jones was able to claim to win as he delivered several strikes to the head from a back mount.
“It was always about being the champion again, it was never about the opponent,” said Jones.
“Nothing personal. I’m just happy with my belt and for now I want to go back to the gym and improve my game.”
Meanwhile, Gustafsson believes“He keeps a very high level of fighting.
“I was prepared for it. He just caught me this time and that’s it.
“I didn’t notice anything if he was stronger or faster or anything lie that. He used his kicks, used his takedown. He used a really good move today and he shot me down.”

After the bout, Jones also apologised to Izabelle Kostic, the Swedish journalist who he had curtly cut off following a question.
He said: “Sister here with the camera, I was extremely disrespectful to you and I’m sincerely sorry. I am so sorry for disrespecting you.”
