UFC: Robert Whittaker suggests two huge unification title fights for next UFC event in Australia the fans are loving
The UFC has two huge title unification fights on its hands and it seems like both fights could occur on the same card.
Israel Adesanya recently won the interim UFC middleweight title with a hard-fought victory over Kelvin Gastelum while Dustin Poirier has risen to the throne of the lightweight divsion while Khabib Nurmagomedov is suspended.
Khabib’s suspension is up on July 6 but the Russian is reportedly ready to sit out until his teammates can return too on October 6.
A bout between Nurmagomedov and Poirier is inevitable and the same applies to Robert Whittaker taking on Adesanya.
According to Whittaker, an Australian-native, he wants to see both fights take place at one of the biggest UFC pay-per-view events of the year in his homeland.
There’s no denying that those fights would be a huge draw on their own, let alone as part of a double main event.
Khabib and Poirier had been in talks for a September showdown if reports are to be believed and while no Australian event has been announced yet, they typically take place in the winter months.
In fact, the last time the UFC was in Australia, Adesanya was defeating the greatest middleweight of all-time Anderson Silva just last February.
Before that, UFC was down under last December.
